Report Share. Hottopic is a pretty good place to work, under the right management. With much needed time, I excelled in the company to the point of reaching assistant manager.
I did realize how much me excelling, affected some other individuals to the point where they were being insubordinate and disrespectful, so some people take it as a very cut throat climb into management. Pros Holiday pay, great customers. Cons Bi-weekly pay, lack of communication. I had a good time working with hottopic, and they really worked with my schdule while I was in school.
It could get a little stressful with how small the store was but overall it was a pretty fun place with nice coworkers. Between covering call out shifts, addressing drama, bad management, and rude customers, the job is not worth the stress. Customers are rude to associates, management is unnecessarily rude to associates, and higher ups only care about the presentation of the store and not the actual safety of any lower employees. Pros employee discount. Cons bad management, theft, drama, pay.
This job has been the most fun and flexible job I have ever worked. The staff and clientele that come through there are amazing. There is room to grow and always something new to learn! Pros Great growth opportunities, flexible, fun. Cons Working during holiday. Thanksgiving night. Would you recommend working at your company?
Help people considering your employer make a good choice. Such a fun workplace! I worked at Hot Topic for a little over a year and it was one of my favorite jobs!
The people who come in are so friendly and Hot Topic is definitely such a welcoming community. I worked here for 6 years and looking back it was easily the happiest I've been in the workplace. You make friends with everyone that comes into the store, have complete freedom to be your true self without any judgement and the work itself is fun. Pros You get to be yourself, make friends with everyone that comes in, easy to learn new things and advance. Cons Pay is pretty low, rotating shifts.
Pros merch discount. Good work environment but no room for promotions. Worked here for 4 years and left still making my starting wage. I worked there for 4 years and knew the ins and outs and managers hired people that have never worked at a Hot Topic before to take management positions. Yes There are 1 helpful reviews 1 No. It was very fun at first, but we have many fall outs and it's a toxic environment that is never addressed, managers don't treat other employees the same, managers was always off the floor when it was busy, feel like when you become more part of the company then you get used and tossed to the side whenever a new employee comes.
For working so long and many hours the pay never adds up, managers play a big part in the consent issues but no one speaks out about it so I just had to go. Overall it was fun just the lack of caring for employers mental health was awful, and the choice of management. Pros Co workers, seeing different customers. Cons Management, low pay.
